Copy editing

Jay Noel has extensive experience as a copy editor, specifically as a news reporter who filled in for the editor and assistant editor.

They worked as a journalist for more than five years before opening a communications business, which provided proofreading services to trade publications and lifestyle magazines.

Sensitivity reading

Jay is a pansexual nonbinary person who is aware of many of the issues facing the queer and gender diverse communities, and the nuances surrounding those issues.

They also have bipolar II disorder, which provides them with in-depth knowledge of mental illness, as well as the misunderstandings mentally ill people face.

Line editing

In 2000, Jay provided line editing services for a nonfiction book about a love affair with Prince Albert II of Monaco. The book was self published and is no longer available.

They are currently line editing a guide for mothers with PMD - Perinatal Mood Disorders. They also provide line editing via their local Tuesday night writers’ group.

Proofreading

In addition to copy editing, Jay has considerable experience as a proofreader from their time in the newsroom and running their own business. In the newsroom, copy had to be proofread three times before printing. Jay was one of the primary proofreaders for three local newspapers.
